“Actually the V Machine can be ridden more from the middle because the panel v helps initiate going to rail. Sure, they can be tail riders and many have remarked that they feel & look like how a good single fin rides.
The V is key: the increased amount of vee allow te board to lay over and hold well...... they love AM2 for the go to tri (or 5 fins set) as they are larger fins. I caution people not to go too small of fins as it will starve the board of its inherent horsepower.
V Machines like to be spanked: the more you lay into them, bend your knees & drive the board with both feet from a closer to center position, the more dividends she will respond with. Stoker rides shortboards much like he did or does on longboards....... there's nothing wrong with that, but I wanted to incorporate more into the design.
I refined the rocker.. evolved it so really good surfers could DRIVE the board deep onto rail & come out of turns with mach speed.......... not Stokie's kind of style........ we even had a bit of a disconnect on that, and I told him "I refined the rocker so really good surfers can carve them rather than pivot them".
He didn't agree with me that the flatter forward rocker would literally "hop" in fully committed driving turns on real waves...... he loves the longboard rocker because that's the way it surfs..... my model kind of thinking. So I said "well I don't just want to shape 7'6"-8'0"s for guys 60 yrs. older & older, besides, a VEE BOTTOM is intentionally designed to carve on rail”
The early day ones were nearly always 7'6" and carved out of a Yater longboard blank. This made them "paddle like a longboard, but surf like a shortboard" as the saying went...... but the surfs like a shortboard part meant surfing from the tail, swinging the nose around with a flatter, step toward the nose to trim type of rocker.
